What's Happening

Thank you for all you do to keep the enrollment growing in DL.  Historically, there has been no marketing campaign for DL courses and still our enrollment grows.  We now offer more online courses than any public institution in the State of New Mexico.  Our students are continually asking for more courses via this instructional method and our faculty members keep rising to the occasion.

Announcements

DL Celebration Days!

Mark your calendars for the Distance Learning Celebration Days, July 18 (Main) & July 19 (JMMC) 2007.  We will have some cake to  celebrate an outstanding year of DL growth.

BRIAN'S CORNER

Greetings all,

Thank you for your patience as we prepare for the migration to Blackboard (WebCT) CE 6.  We are now ready to begin the migration of all hybrid, web-enhanced, development and Fall DL courses that are not already in CE6.  Here please find the process.

First, you must note that we will not be automatically migrating every hybrid WE, or DEV course. You must send me a list with the course number, title and indicate whether it is WE or DEV in order to have it migrated.

Once you’ve reviewed that information the first thing you’ll need to do is create a username and password on the CE 6 environment and then self-register into the migration course shell.  I’ve attached instructions on how to create a username/password and how to self-register into a course on CE6.  CE 6 can be accessed at the following address: http://elearning.cnm.edu.  The course category is Uncategorized, the course title is TEACHING WITH CE 6 and the section is Hybrid and Web-enhanced COURSE MIGRATIONS (SUMMER 07).

Once you’ve accessed the course you will see instructions on what to do next.

Thank you and we look forward to working with each of you on this migration.

Self-Registration into a course on CE6 (134kb PDF)

NOTE: Faculty teaching DL courses in the Fall who have not used CE6 yet will be notified by me for instructions.

 DL Tools

An online demonstration of Horizon Wimba's Live Classroom took place last April 5th, 2007 conducted by Estelita Young, Regional Sales Manager - Horizon Wimba.   This synchronous meeting application supports audio, video, application sharing, and content display, enabling instructors to add important elements of interaction that cannot be provided in a text-based course.  The product allows you to personalize your online courses by holding live, online classes, office hours, guest lectures, webcasts, and meetings.  Live Classroom is fully compatible with Blackboard CE6.

You can check out a three minute demo of Live Classroom at:

Congratulations to CNM's Distance Learning Faculty on an outstanding e-Learning Conference.

Thanks to your support the Conference was a huge success!

Student Spotlight

Robin Fernandez
2007 ITC Outstanding Student award recipient

Congratulations to CNM Distance Learning student, Robin Fernandez, for being selected as the 2007 Outstanding Distance Learning Student Award recipient by the Instructional Technology Council of the American Association of Community Colleges.

Robin is a full-time Accounting student and the proud parent of two young sons, James and Julian.  She began taking DL courses during her pregnancy with Julian and has continued because “they are convenient and allow me “mommy” time.”  Robin is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has been CNM’s Honor Roll every semester since becoming a student. The Distance Learning Department congratulates Robin on her award!

Way to go, Robin!
