4Student Success Initiative, Part 3:  Sign up now to participate--and to present--on March 30
Part 3 of the year-long Student Success Initiative is to celebrate and encourage our own “best practices” at CNM. This half-day conference will provide an opportunity for faculty and instructional staff to share ideas about classroom strategies that promote success for our students. Click on the link below to register on the Organizational Learning Calendar-and-Registration form:
http://planet.cnm.edu/orglearn/Institute/2007Spring/calendar_registration.htm

If you are a member of the CNM community who has developed a strong and/or innovative approach for increasing student success, please consider sharing what you do with your colleagues!  This may include teaching styles and/or classroom techniques (e.g., innovative group work, games, brain-based learning strategies, contextual learning, interactive techniques, etc.). To nominate someone or to make a workshop or panel proposal yourself, download the form by clicking on the link below, complete it, and then email it to Kayleigh Carabajal no later than Wednesday, February 14:

4"Critical Thinking in the Classroom": Share ideas at a brown-bag lunch on Feb. 8

What are your thoughts on critical thinking?  The Student Academic Achievement Committee (SAAC) has identified critical thinking as one of five core competencies for all CNM graduates.  This year, program directors are asked to measure their graduates' abilities in critical thinking.

Please come to the brown-bag lunch on Thursday, February 8, to hear what the Liberal Arts and Automotive Technology Programs have done in this area and share your own ideas and experiences.  Bring or buy your lunch at the Food Court, where this event will take place. Register for this event on this webpage: http://planet.cnm.edu/orglearn/Institute/2007Spring/calendar_registration.htm

4At-your-desk learning:  Try the MS Office Format Painter tool--"the most helpful toolbar button you've never used"
The Format Painter tool, found in the toolbars of the Office software you use everyday, can save you LOTS of time.  This tool lets you take a swatch of formatted text from one location or cell and then "paint" that format onto other text or cells in the same file or a different one.  To learn how easy it is to use this tool, watch the demo to see how it works:

4Productivity Primer:  File Management Introduction
Having trouble finding the file you created in Word last week?  Tired of recreating files because you can't find the originals?  It's impossible for computer users to be really productive without having good file management skills. Learn those skills in a one-hour learnshop taught by Luanne Haley, ITS desktop administrator, on Tuesday, February 6, in the Technology Education Center (TEC), S-21, Main. Register for this event on this webpage: http://planet.cnm.edu/orglearn/Institute/2007Spring/calendar_registration.htm
