improvement is most surely and thoroughly achieved when teachers engage in
frequent, continuous and increasingly concrete talk about teaching
practices...capable of distinguishing one practice and its virtue from another."

4Nominate yourself or
other instructors to present at the
Student Success Initiative, Part 3--Nomination deadline is Feb. 14
CNM faculty and
instructional staff's "best practices" will be the focus of Part 3 of the
year-long Student Success Initiative to be held March 30 in Smith Brasher Hall,
Main Campus. The half-day conference will provide an opportunity for
faculty and instructional staff to share ideas about classroom strategies that
promote success for our students.
If you are a member
of the CNM community who has developed a strong and/or innovative approach for
increasing student success, please consider sharing what you do with your
colleagues! This may include teaching styles and/or classroom techniques
(e.g., innovative group work, games, brain-based learning strategies, contextual
learning, interactive techniques, etc.). To nominate someone or to make a
workshop or panel proposal yourself, download the form by clicking on the link
below, complete it, and then email it to Kayleigh Carabajal no later than
Wednesday, February 14:

4Reminder:
Critical
Thinking in the Classroom":
Share ideas at a brown-bag lunch on Feb. 8
What are your thoughts on critical thinking?
The
Student Academic Achievement Committee (SAAC) has identified critical
thinking as
one
of five core competencies for all CNM graduates. This year, program
directors are asked to measure their graduates' abilities in critical thinking.
Please come to the brown-bag lunch on Thursday,
February 8, to hear what the Liberal Arts and Automotive Technology Programs
have done in this area and share your own ideas and experiences. Bring or
buy your lunch at the Food Court, where this event will take place.

4At-your-desk
learning: Organizing your electronic files
This tutorial is directed to instructors, but it can
be useful for anyone who wants to save electronic files and find them
again without an exhaustive search. As this webpage explains, "Organization is a
big time saver...One place where you can gain greater efficiencies may be in how
you maintain your filing system. Computers are great when it comes to searching
for, analyzing, and storing information. But, if you don't understand how best
to organize that information on your computer hard disk or your network, the
value of this power is lost." Learn how to regain that power on this website:

4Productivity
Primer: Make lists!
Making a list of things to do or goals to
achieve or people to contact is often the first, best step you can take toward
getting the job, whatever it is, done. On the Microsoft webpage below, you'll
find a huge range of list templates that you can download.

While many of the list templates apply to personal
and at-home uses,
many others relate to the workplace, including these:
