A weekly e-newsletter from CNM's Organizational Learning Division with training and development ideas and opportunities for all employees
"Let the main object be... to seek and to find a method of instruction by which teachers may teach less but learners learn more."
--John Amos Comenius February 12 Issue: Table of Contents
4When college students rate iPods "better than beer," it might be time for instructors to sign up for these podcasting learnshops Why should CNM instructors think about using podcasts in their courses? Because in June 2006, an annual survey showed that iPods surpassed beer [73% vs. 71%] as the most "in" thing with college students. And, in fact, "iPods were even more popular with Hispanic students (77%) and women (76%)." When college students consider a technology better than beer, college instructors should take notice--and perhaps take advantage--of this new technology.
On February 23, Elizabeth Rieb, ECA instructor, will repeat the first of three learnshops on podcasting. The two-hour introductory learnshop will provide the foundation for instructional use of podcasts in the classroom.
The intermediate and advanced learnshops will take place on March 2 and March 9, respectively, on the Main Campus. These learnshops will go beyond finding and using podcasts to creating podcasts. And you don't have to own or use an iPod to take these learnshops.

4New learnshop series begins March 14: Digital Visual Resources for Instruction Mary Bates Ulibarri, CHSS art instructor, will teach a new series of three learnshops on "Digital Visual Resources for Instruction" in March and April.
During the first 2.5-hour learnshop on "Internet Resources" on March 14, participants will learn how to collect and prepare materials that can be efficiently uploaded into PowerPoint for in-class presentation or web-accessible study materials.
During the second learnshop on "Digitization" on April 4, participants will learn how to scan and document the visual materials they already have as print images, and how to edit and store digital images.
Then during the third and last learnshop, "Creating Visual Presentations for Instruction," on April 18, participants will learn principles and practices that will help them create effective slide lecture and study materials for instruction using digital images collected from a variety of sources.
