4Teaching Resource for High School and College Classrooms Using the Social Science Resource Center's "After September 11" Essay Collection
"Young people are trying to make sense of the terrorist attack on September 11th and its aftermath."  This event has created an extraordinary "teachable moment" to engage students in discussions about the global context of these attacks, the options for U.S. government and allied responses, as well as the potential consequences of terrorism. This teaching resource aims to provide teachers with the tools to seize on this "teachable moment."

At the same time that working with these essays sharpens students' analytical, reading and writing skills, using the work of international experts in the field of sociology, political science, economics, anthropology, history and geography exposes students to various worldviews, a central component of a well-rounded education. 4New learnshop series begins March 14:  Digital Visual Resources for Instruction

Mary Bates Ulibarri, CHSS art instructor, will teach a new series of three learnshops on "Digital Visual Resources for Instruction" in March and April.

During the first 2.5-hour learnshop on "Internet Resources" on March 14, participants will learn how to collect and prepare materials that can be efficiently uploaded into PowerPoint for in-class presentation or web-accessible study materials.

During the second learnshop on "Digitization" on April 4, participants will learn how to scan and document the visual materials they already have as print images, and how to edit and store digital images.

Then during the third and last learnshop, "Creating Visual Presentations for Instruction," on April 18, participants will learn principles and practices that will help them create effective slide lecture and study materials for instruction using digital images collected from a variety of sources.

4At-your-desk learning:  "Make the most of 15 minutes in Outlook 2003"
"Rush, rush, rush!  We are all living busy lives and need to take time to organize our day and communicate with friends, family, and associates so that we can get things done. Outlook 2003 includes many features that help you accomplish this. Come and join Bobby in his office to see best practices and features that he uses in Outlook to get the most work done in the 15 minutes that he has before his next meeting."  View three demos--on checking email, following up on to-do items, and connecting with people--at this web address--and remember that Office skills are portable:  you'll be able to take them into the next edition of Office software, Outlook 2007!
