4 Math, science, technology, and engineering faculty: Interested in "Getting Results" in the classroom?

The League for Innovation teamed up with WGBH in Boston to create a faculty development course aimed at giving instructors "strategies for deepening teaching and learning."  The course is funded by the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technological Education (ATE) program and is suitable for self-study as well as face-to-face or hybrid training.

Read an overview of the course and look over the course modules at this web address:

Or you can check out individual topics covered in the course modules by viewing the site map:

4At-your-desk learning:  This useful demo on "Creating Charts in Excel 2007" will whet your appetite for the newest version of Excel
Watch this demo and learn how to make and tweak charts in Excel 2007, and you'll be eager to get your hands on the latest version.  Of course, the information about the value of adding charts applies to Excel 2003 as well.

4Productivity Primer:  The eyes have it!  How to deal with "Computer-Eyes"
"When it comes to easing eye strain, blinking is the key. When computer users sit in front of a screen for an extended period of time, they blink less causing eye moisture to evaporate.  The result is often a condition called dry eyes, which manifests itself in numerous ways, including itching, burning, double vision, color fringes and heavy, blurry, gritty or fatigued sensations."

"Although computer usage has never been shown to actually damage the eye, the strain it places on eye muscles can take a toll, not only on the individual's vision, but also on job performance. An employee who cannot see comfortably is not going to be as productive or as steady as one who can."
