Counting down to finals week...

Use PowerPoint to create final-exam reviews
Take some of the stress out of reviewing for final exams by making a game out of it.  This website offers templates that you can download and customize as well as instructions for creating and playing the following learning games:

  • Jeopardy

  • Hollywood Squares

  • Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

This site was created by Kim Overstreet for the Learning Through Technology website for the Fayette County Public Schools in Lexington, KY.

Letter to Next Term's Students
"As a synthesis project at the end of the term, I ask students to write a note to NEXT TERM students. What would they say to new students coming to college about this course? What did they learn that they consider important? Why was this class important to them?
...I post these comments on a class web page for other students to see, when they are looking for a class to take..."

This idea comes from the On Course Workshop website.

2-Second Survey for Faculty & Instructional Staff

The meager responses to the 7-Second Surveys indicate faculty's lack of time or interest in responding to the open-ended questions asked recently.

So...how about a 2-Second Survey that requires a simple yes or no answer--like this one:

Do you plan to attend a professional development event--workshop, training, conference, etc.--related to your teaching or tutoring in the coming academic year?

Yes
No

Optional comment:

Thanks for your feedback. The results will be posted next week in this e-newsletter.

Joke of the Week

A businessman who needs millions of dollars to clinch an important deal goes to church to pray for the money. By chance he kneels next to a man who is praying for $100 to pay an urgent debt.

The businessman takes out his wallet and presses $100 into the other man's hand. Overjoyed, the man gets up and leaves the church.

The businessman then closes his eyes and prays, "And now, Lord, that I have your undivided attention...."
