Share ideas of what CNM
can do on the journey of Continuous Improvement
Sharing Best Practices
Last Friday (4/11/08) we had our first
Career Pathways Conference at the Workforce Training
Center. It was exciting to see educators and
administrators from secondary education and CNM together
learning and sharing ideas. The conference was designed
with 20 break- out sessions that were facilitated by
practitioners from CNM, APS, RRHS, PED, HED and other
local charter schools.

APS/CNM Dual Credit Student
Panelists
We could not have put on such a successful event without
these remarkable facilitators. I would like to take a
moment to recognize the folks from CNM who took time out
of their busy schedule to share work that they have been
doing that relates to Career Pathways and sharing their
best practices with the conference community.
David
Licht presented on using
WorkKeys to evaluate basic educational and workplace
skills needed for Career Pathways.
Sionna Grassbaugh and Julie Fisher presented
on Dual Credit. They also did a wonderful job
moderating the Student Panel at lunch. Jim Graebner
partnered with an APS teacher, Dave Roberts to present
his Film Bootcamp (and filled the room).

Gordon Bennett partnered with Carmen DiGregorio (APS)
to present on the model used for the Photonics Academy
at West Mesa High School. Cindy Brennan
presented on CNM’s whole process for helping students
find a career. Don Lauser and Paul Brownlow
presented on how they partnered (SAGE & AT) to
contextualize basic skills math instruction for the
construction trade. Audrey Gramstad presented on
Perkins Funding.

Richard Gentile partnered with Michael Stanton from
APS to present on the Albuquerque Health Wellness
Alliance.
Tamara Mason and Glenda Davis presented on
Learning Communities: Linking
Math with Public Speaking at CNM. Donna Diller
partnered with Independence High School Principal, David
Latham, and the Citizen School to present on developing
partnerships for successful Career Pathways. Barbara
Burrows partnered with David Latham to present on
using a strengths-based approach to foster student
success.
Peggy Homan presented on CNM’s Career Pathways
courses.
Kayleigh
Carabajal
facilitated
a dialogue on Venues for collaboration.
Thanks to all of our CNM presenters for being a role
model and providing others with a professional
development opportunity!

Learn
or improve your technology skills right at your desk

Do you ever need to draw a quick diagram, flowchart or
timeline for a presentation? What software do you use?
I generally use Visio as it is part of the office suite at
CNM.
Here is a MS job aid that functions as a self-paced tutorial
that will help you the next time you find a need to use
Visio.
Quotation
"The
Career Pathways model is based on the premise that a
unified effort can accomplish far more than the isolated
efforts of individuals and groups."

Culturally Responsive Curriculum
CNM is looking for 20 successful
educators who are willing to explore new ways to connect
students with learning. If you’ve explored the concept of
Diversity in the Classroom and thought, “Fine, but how can
this really make a difference to my students?” consider
joining CNM’s inaugural cohort of Culturally Responsive
Curriculum development.
This blended learning experience will
guide you through the process of recognizing the
relationships between culture, learning, and teaching; it
will explore and explain the concept of culturally
responsive pedagogy; and it will guide you through processes
and strategies that you will employ to facilitate culturally
responsive pedagogy in the classroom.
Make no mistake; this is not a high
level “conceptual” project. You are expected to bring with
you a syllabus and the materials for a class you regularly
teach at CNM. You will be reexamining your materials through
a new set of culturally cognizant lenses, and you will be
retooling your class to maximize the results your students
receive for their efforts.
Your journey begins with the May 30
Workshop. Sign up on the
Organizational Learning registration page.
Attendance is limited, and you must meet
certain minimum qualifications to attend. For further
information, please contact
Judith Olean at or
call 224-3863.
